Estou de volta da minha semana de férias com uma cabeça fresca e com vontade de trabalhar. Pela primeira vez em anos consegui não levar preocupações de trabalho na bagagem e pude simplesmente relaxar com a família, o que para mim é uma novidade.
Falando em novidades, e voltando ao último post, descobri ao voltar que fiquei no podium do concurso do Project Rooftop, o que foi uma bela surpresa.
A notícia inspirou-me a repegar no tema para os próximos aquecimentos diários e posso vir a postar aqui mais redesigns de outros X-Men, só pelo gozo. Vamos ver o que sai.
Entretanto, estas próximas semanas vão ser de colaboração com a Droid_id num novo projecto a revelar mais para a frente.
Hora de trabalhar.
I'm back from my vacation week with a fresh mind and some will to work. For the first time in years I managed to avoid taking work stress on my luggage and just relaxed with the family, which is new to me.
Speaking of new (or news), and going back to the last post, I found out coming back that I made the podium on the Project Rooftop contest, which was a nice surprise.
These news inspired me to go back to that theme for the next daily warm-ups so I might post some more X-Men redesigns here, just for fun. We'll see what comes out.
Meanwhile, these next couple of weeks will have me collaborating with Droid-id on a new project to be revealed later on.

Intervalo | Intermission
Peço desculpa pela falta de posts aqui no blog, mas os últimos tempos têm sido (bem) preenchidos com trabalhos encomendados que pagam as contas mas não são postáveis, por isso não tem havido muito tempo para as outras coisas, as coisas que dão gozo à vida.
Mas, com os compromissos cumpridos e fechados, está na altura de tirar uma semana de férias com a família e recarregar baterias para o que aí vem.
Deixo-vos com uma das últimas coisas que fiz para me divertir, uma contribuição para o site Project Rooftop.
Ainda não sei se passou aos finalistas escolhidos, mas cansei-me de esperar pelo resultado e aqui está.

I apologize for the lack of posts on this blog, but the latter times have been (well) full of paying jobs that cover the bills but aren't postable, so I haven't had a lot of time for the other things, the things that make life fun.
But, with all commitments done and closed, time to take a family week off and recharge my batteries for what's to come.
I leave with one of the last fun things I've done, a contribution for the site Project Rooftop.
I still don't know if it was picked as a finalist or not, but I'm tired of waiting for the results and here it is.
I'll be back a week from now.

Beja 2009
Um mês depois, tempo de fazer uma actualização neste blog.
Tenho estado ocupado com trabalhos para pagar contas e que ao mesmo tempo garantem o nível de stress e desespero suficientes para querer fugir mais uma vez para o branco de uma página de BD e para um mundo em que as regras são controladas por mim e não outros.
Por causa destes compromissos tenho adiado os trabalhos no segundo volume do meu projecto Defier e de outras aventuras, mas espero inverter essa situação dentro em breve, para bem da minha sanidade mental.
Entretanto, nem tudo são más notícias.
Recentemente, em seguimento da contribuição para o Atomic Robo, fiz também um pin-up para o outro projecto do Scott Wegener, Killer of Demons, escrito por Christopher Yost e editado pela Image Comics, pin-up que coloco aqui quando puder.
Ainda, no próximo fim de semana vou estar no Festival Internacional de BD de Beja a apresentar o 1º capítulo do Defier e a divertir-me com o pessoal, o bom tempo (espero eu) e a boa vida do Alentejo.
É o segundo ano que o estúdio vai em digressão para Beja e, depois de encontrar por lá o Dave Mckean no ano passado, acabei de saber hoje que este ano o Craig Thompson vai lá estar a dar autógrafos e a apresentar originais.
O próximo fim de semana promete!
Por enquanto é tudo. Estou a fazer os possíveis por me livrar dos “compromissos comerciais” para poder me poder concentrar no que me dá gozo mais à frente.

One month later, time to update this blog.
I've been busy with jobs to pay the bills and which, at the same time, ensure the right level of stress and despair to make me want to run away into the white of a sequential page and into a world where the rules are mine and not anyone else’s.
Because of these commitments I’ve been postponing the progress on the second volume of my project Defier and of other endeavours, but I hope to turn that around soon, for the sake of my mental health.
Meanwhile, not all bodes ill lately.
Recently, following my contribution to Atomic Robo, I also made a pin-up for another project from Scott Wegener, Killer of Demons, written by Christopher Yost and published by Image Comics, which I’ll post here when possible.
Also, next weekend I’ll be at the International Comics Festival of Beja presenting the first chapter from Defier and having fun with the friends, the good weather (I hope) and the Alentejo good life.
This is the second year the studio travels down to Beja and, after bumping into Dave Mckean last year, I’ve just learned that Craig Thompson will be there signing books and presenting originals.
Next weekend promises to be good!
That’s it for now. I’m doing what I can to ditch these “commercial commitments” to get to the good stuff later on.

Atomic Robo
Há algum tempo atrás, tive a oportunidade de contribuir com um pin-up para o comic Atomic Robo, criado por Brian Clevinger e Scott Wegener e publicado pela Red 5 Comics.

Há dias, o Scott deu-me o aval para partilhar o pin-up na net, por isso aqui está.
Curti fazer esta imagem, e pode ser que hajam mais novidades relacionadas no futuro.

Soltas by Jorge Coelho
E continuamos com o tema exposições.
Começa hoje à noite uma exposição do meu colega Jorge Coelho no Espaço Crew Hassan com pranchas de histórias curtas que ele tem feito nos últimos anos.
A exposição chama-se "Soltas" e vai estar patente até dia 22 de Abril.
Se querem ver boa BD em português, dêem um salto à Crew Hassan, na Rua das Portas de Sto Antão, nº 159.

Starting today at Espaço Crew Hassan, my friend Jorge Coelho will be showing a set of sequential pages taken from the short stories he's been doing over the last few years.
The exhibition is called "Soltas" and it will be held until April 22nd.

Exposição Defier #1 | Defier #1 Exhibition
Esta parece ser a altura das exposições. Desta vez, a título individual.
A quem estiver em Lisboa no próximo dia 4 de Abril, fica o convite para a inauguração da mostra de originais do primeiro livro do meu projecto de BD, DEFIER, e lançamento oficial em Portugal deste e do livro MOCIFÃO de Nuno Duarte e Untxura, os dois publicados pelas Edições El Pep.
Quem estiver interessado, pode passar pelo Espaço Chili, na Rua dos Fanqueiros nº 174 1º Esq, por volta das 17h, para assistir ao lançamento dos dois livros e a uma sessão de autógrafos dos três autores (eu, Nuno Duarte e Untxura).
No evento, será também apresentado por David Soares o livro PRISON STORIES, editado pela Mmmnnnrrrg.
A exposição estará patente até dia 18 de Abril, 2ª a 6ªfeira, das 12:30 às 20:00.

You're all welcome to stop by the Espaço Chili store, on Rua dos Fanqueiros nº174 1º Esq, around 5 pm, to attend the presentation of the two books and a book signing with the three authors (myself, Nuno Duarte and Untxura).
The book PRISON STORIES, published by Mmmnnnrrrg, will also be presented by David Soares.
The exhibition will be held until April 18th, Monday through Friday, between 12:30 am and 8 pm.

PUSH - Expo Colectiva na Restart
Para o pessoal aqui de Portugal:
Começa hoje uma exposição colectiva na Restart com trabalhos meus, do Ricardo Tércio, João Lemos e Nuno "Plati" Alves, mais ou menos relacionados com a experiência de tentar vingar em BD fora das nossas fronteiras.
Quem estiver interessado em visitá-la e ver trabalhos novos e velhos, tem até dia 3 de Abril para aparecer na escola de Audiovisuais e Comunicação Restart, no Parque das Nações, naquele edifício à direita do Pavilhão de Portugal.
Está em aberto a hipótese de haver uma palestra, ou algo do género no dia 2, mas qualquer novidade será posta aqui no blog.
Obrigado à Patrícia Lopes e ao João Batanete pelo convite, esforço, e pela (grande) paciência na realização da exposição.
