Post-NYCC Chill

Acabou a 2ª aventura por Nova Iorque e já estou de volta a casa para absorver tudo o que se passou e cair de cabeça no trabalho mais uma vez.
Como a outra experiência, esta viagem foi rápida e bastante preenchida (até um pouco caótica às vezes), mas os objectivos iniciais foram cumpridos.

Pontos altos da convenção:
- ter o trabalho que apresentei bem recebido por público e editores;
- encontrar novos e velhos amigos no Artist Alley;
- poder espiar o trabalho do Adam Hughes que estava sentado nas nossas costas no Artist Alley;
- passar os dias na convenção a desenhar commissions;
- anotar lições para futuras convenções;

Obrigado a todos os que apareceram nas mesas R-17/18, que viram e gostaram do nosso trabalho, que pediram desenhos e prints e gastaram do vosso tempo de convenção a conhecer-nos um pouco melhor. Espero voltar a encontrá-los brevemente no mesmo sítio. Vocês fizeram a nossa convenção.

De volta à base, o trabalho nos meus projectos continua e o embalo ganho durante a NYCC tem que ser mantido.
Há ideias para escrever, desenhos para fazer e muita página de BD pela frente nos próximos meses.



The 2nd adventure in New York is over and I'm back home absorbing everything and falling into the grind once more.
Like the previous experience, this trip was fast and full (even chaotic at times), but the initial goals were accomplished.

Highnotes of the convention:
- having the work I showed there well accepted by editors and passers-by:
- finding new and old friends at Artist Alley;
- get to spy on Adam Hughes' work, as he had his table right behind ours;
- spending the con days drawing commissions;
- getting tips for the next conventions;

Thank you to all of you who dropped by tables R-17/18, who saw and liked our work, who asked for our sketches and prints, and who spent a little of their convention time to get to know us better. I hope I'm able to catch you at the same place very soon. You made our convention.

Back to my base, the work on my projects continues and the momentum gained at NYCC has to hold up.
There're ideas to write, drawings to be made and a whole lot of comic book pages to draw in the next few months.

NY Comic Con 2010

O tempo está quase no fim para ter tudo pronto para a NY Comic Con, e finalmente acabei o material que queria levar para a convenção.
Os dias têm sido de stress, correria, preparações, constipações, e muito muito trabalho, com algum gozo de ver ideias a crescer à mistura.

Entretanto, saíram as colocações das mesas no Artist Alley, e eu e o resto da secção portuguesa da Con vamos estar nas mesas R-17 e R-18.
Apareçam por lá para ver o nosso trabalho, dizer olá e conversar connosco.
Vamos ter prints, originais e as habituais "commissions" à venda nas mesas.

Este será provavelmente o último post antes da viagem, por isso, aqui ficam abaixo algumas imagens que podem encontrar por lá.
Mais novidades no regresso.



Time is running out to have everything ready for the NY Comic Con, and I've finally wrapped up the material I want to bring with me.
The last few days have been filled with stress, running around, colds, and lots and lots of work, with a good dose of fun watching your ideas come alive.

In the meantime, the table numbers for Artist Alley are out, and me and the portuguese comittee will be sitting at tables R-17 and R-18.
Drop by to check out our work, say hi and hang out with us.
We'll have prints, originals and the usual commissions for sale at our tables.

This will probably be the last post before the trip, so here are some of the images you should look for at Artist Alley this year.

Heroes In Need

Setembro está à porta e mais uma vez esta parece ser sempre a altura mais caótica e stressante do ano para mim.
Há muita coisa a acontecer, muita para acontecer, muito trabalho que teima em não avançar em cima do estirador e uma tremenda moleza do calor que ainda se faz sentir em Lisboa.

No meio do rebuliço do trabalho, consegui encaixar umas submissões para o Project Rooftop enquadradas num post chamado "Heroes In Need".
As submissões estão a demorar a aparecer no site (se é que vão aparecer), mas como este blog precisa de alguma arte nova, aqui vão.
As minhas reintrepretações do Fantasma de Lee Falk e da personagem da DC Firestorm (Nuclear na versão brasileira, se a memória não me falha).



September is right around the corner and once again this appears to be the most chaotic and stressful time of the year for me.
There's a lot happening, a lot about to happen, a lot of work which insists on hanging around my drawing table and a fierce dullness stemed from the heat that still haunts Lisbon.

In the midst of all the hussle, I managed to squeeze a couple of submissions to Project Rooftop concerning a post called "Heroes In Need".
These submissions haven't been posted on the site yet (if they're going to be posted at all) but since this blog needs some new art, here they go.

Um dos últimos trabalhos de publicidade que fiz já circula por aí.
Há uns meses fui contactado para trabalhar na concepção de personagens para a nova imagem da Vodafone Yorn e aqui estão eles.

A couple of months ago I was invited to work on the concept design for the new campaign of the phone company Vodafone Yorn and here they are.

"The future, Conan?!"

De volta a Lisboa depois de 5 dias em Madrid e é tempo de fazer contas ao trabalho que aí vem.
Agosto não vai ser mês de férias, como não tem sido nos últimos anos, por isso, tenho que esquecer o calor e a praia e enterrar a cabeça no desenho se quero colher alguns frutos nos meses que se aproximam.
Em cima da mesa está um projecto para França, separações de cores para o meu buddy Nuno Plati, material para o TLS Mag #2, e umas quantas curtas para levar a Nova Iorque à ComicCon deste ano, se tudo correr bem.
Muito para fazer e muito em que pensar nas próximas semanas.


Back to Lisbon after 5 days in Madrid and it’s time to plan for the jobs I have lined up.
August will not be a vacation month, as it hasn’t been for a while, so I have to get the heat and the beach out of my mind and bury my head on the drawing board if I want to reap some rewards in the months to come.
On the table right now is a project for France (sorry for the delay Bruno), color separations for my buddy Nuno Plati, stuff for the TLS Mag #2, and a couple short stories I’m planning on taking to the NY ComicCon this year, if all goes well.
Lots to do and lots to think about in the weeks ahead.

Me voy a Madrid!

Tempo de recarregar baterias.

Depois de uns meses de trabalho intenso a saltar de storyboard para concepts para ilustrações e exposições, fiquei a sentir-me gasto em ideias e destreza de desenho, o que me tem atrasado alguns compromissos e projectos que tenho em curso, por isso, esta é uma boa altura para parar e respirar fora do meu ambiente natural.

Assim, os próximos dias vou estar a percorrer as ruas de Madrid, a ver museus, monumentos, esplanadas e tudo o mais que a capital vizinha puder oferecer em 4 dias.

Entretanto, estou a colorir a curta que tive exposta na colectiva do TLS em Beja e que pode ou não entrar na 2ª edição do The Lisbon Studio Mag, já em produção.

Time to recharge batteries.

After a couple of months of intense work jumping from storyboard to concepts to illustrations to exhibits, I ended up feeling spent on ideas and drawing sharpness, which has delayed some commitments and projects I have coming up, so it's a good time to stop for a quick breath outside of my natural environment.

So, in the next few days, I'll be walking up and down the streets of Madrid, seeing museums, monuments, squares, and whatever the neighbouring capital has to offer in 4 days.

Meanwhile, I've been working on the colors of the short story I did for the exhibit we did in Beja, which may or may not appear on the 2nd issue of the The Lisbon Studio Mag.

Actualização | Update

Passada a ressaca do Festival de Beja, mais um fim de semana lisboeta com os manos Bá e Moon com muita conversa, snooker e cheiro a sardinha no ar, estou de volta ao trabalho, tentando fechar pontas soltas para começar novas aventuras, felizmente todas envolvendo BD.
Mais detalhes a revelar no futuro.



Through with the Beja Festival hangover, plus a Lisbon weekend with the brothers Bá and Moon filled with talks, snooker and the smell of sardines in the air, I'm back to work, trying to close up some loose ends and start new adventures, happily all of them envolving Comics.
